Recommended #15 Battery Face by Min Diesel

Posted on May 20, 2011

It’s been a wee while since Carson Wells answered some questions for Recommended #14, but finally it’s the turn of Min Diesel.

Who are you recommending? and why?

BATTERY FACE. We’ve known them for years and been luck enough to have played with them a couple of times. Theyre still a fairly new band and seem to be getting about a bit down in the central belt.

How would you describe the music?

Really Loud. They don’t have a bass player and use a lot of loops, synths and vocal effects and I think one of the guitars is played through a PA head. Righteous riffs mixed with some drown out improv sections.

How did you discover this band/artist?

I’ve known Rikki and Gav through putting on their old band PVH in Montrose of all places and I used to go see them up in Aberdeen before they moved. PVH slowed down a bit and then Battery Face was born. They asked us to play down in Glasgow for the launch of the Elektropapknit compilation at the end of last year which I think was their 2nd gig. We ended up staying at the Wills flat which looks a lot like the place from Fight Club.

How would you describe the live experience?

It’s usually pretty relentless, I think the max ive seen them play is like 20 minutes with not very much chit-chat, it’s better that way as their patter’s pretty rubbish.

If you had to suggest one of their songs to start someone off with what would it be?

Lurch as it’s the only one you can hear on the internet just now.

A big thanks to Min Diesel for the recommendation.

You can keep up to date with Battery Face on Facebook.
